Improvements / QUEEN MARY 2
« Last post by derymar on November 13, 2016, 08:13:36 am »
Hello Paul...

Do you remember telling me to add the Queen Mary 2 as a priority on the condition that I find you pictures?
So here is 2 a side view and a view from above! I hope you will be able to work with that ?! Of course, when your work permits!

In closing I saw on wikipedia that the Queen Mary 2 has a speed of 29.3 knots! Fabulous not ?!

PLEASE, confirm me that is ok ...

Unable to pass the Panama Canal with the Sun Princess ... I got stuck! Boot too big or lack of precision of the image ... Would not it be possible to be able to choose ourselves the place or leave as in your first simulator?   :(

After a nice trip from Southampton over Stavanger, Tromso, North Cape, Kirkenes and Murmansk we went on to Longyearbyen. There I took all the passengers off board. Your former First Officer has hired, and was allowed to cross the edge with the Oasis. At first she was visible for a while in the gray band, but then she was gone.
The menu button, the track button and the multiplayer butten no longer worked. Navigation chart button, fullscreen button and the mute button were all right. The mooring button told me: Slow down ... But Oasis fell into nirvana anyway. Horn and anchor did not work.
Oasis was still listed in the 'ships in game' menu, you could load her again, and she fidgeted as a multiple image on the screen.
Now you can see in this menu that she is still moving.

This is just for reporting.

Anyway, could someone pick up the people there with his ship? They are still waiting for the journey home.

Thank you for your efforts. It really did not bother me, I noticed it by chance, when it was scratching in the harbor.

A crazy dream leaving the Port of Québec (Pier 22) towards Thailand via the Strait of Gibraltar and the Suez Canal! If it takes too long leave from Southampton or Calais!   :P

That is a royal stuffup. Maria-C is one of the first ships and was a generic made up ship given the name of a similar looking real ship. Only later did I decide to only include real ships with real dimensions.
I corrected the length of Maria-c to the correct 34 meter. However the ship is now too narrow (7 meters instead of 9) as the image of the deck isn't the actual Maria-c.

It will have to do for now. This ship is likely to be removed until I get an actual image of her deck.

Hello again!

Once again made a trip to Kotka and moored four days at the same place. Nothing happened. Now going out and sailing to St. Petersburg.

Improvements / Controls display & ship's behaviour
« Last post by Nikeu on November 08, 2016, 05:03:45 am »
Hello, My name is Nico, I am sailing as a deck officer / DPO onboard cable ships, and I have been expecting this simulator for sooo long ! Thank you very much !

As I just signed off recently, I am testing this simulator for the first time and it's really great !
nevertheless, I have few remarks to make the simulator more realistic.

The first one is about the steering controls. The display and command is quite unusual compared to what I am used to. In my experience, the 0 or midships mark is on top of the knob and when the operator wants to alter heading to starboard, he turns the control knob clockwise to the right and pushes the pitch control lever forward. In fact the control knob is set in the direction the operator wants the propeller to push (like the bow thrusters control).

My second remark is about the swinging inertia which is set very low on the simulator. In real life, once they are set on a significant rate of turn, big ships tend to keep this rate of turn for a long time except if the wheel is met on the other side to stop the giration.

I hope you find my remarks relevant ! I would be very happy if I could help !!

Maria-C, known as a 34 m x 9 m ship should fit comfortably into the port of Niendorf, a port close to my home at the Baltic Sea. So I sailed to this port, and I had to realize that the ship was bigger than expected! The fishermen from there said I should not go in, but I managed it with small scratches, both at ship and dock, which will multiply when I leave.
In Google Maps there is a measurement function, and Maria-C appeares as 56 m ship, as shown in the pictures below. As a kind of calibration, I also measured a track in the sports stadium, which measured 100 meters here, and Google is pretty accurate, the small difference comes only from my inaccuracy when clicking.
