The speed limit in the Suez canal is about 8 kts. But you could have googled that  ;)

General Discussion / Re: Refueling
« Last post by dinther on December 22, 2016, 01:38:14 pm »
Your ship will refuel if it is docked. It takes 4 hours to fill up the tanks.

Your ship will also refuel if it is at anchor. However, you can only anchor in shallow waters close to shore so make sure you don't run out in the middle of the ocean.
When on anchor you need to wait 4 hours before a refuel ship reaches you and another 4 hours to fill up te tanks.

So, when anchored overnight you should find your ship refueled the next morning.

General Discussion / Re: CPU - Cooking

It be interesting to see the chrome numbers. It is claimed Chrome uses a lot of CPU power. But the game is absolutely hammering the CPU. This is because it uses the "requestAnimationFrame" API call. This call allows a computer to complete drawing a frame in the browser and then executes the next simulation cycle. Faster CPU's will run at a higher frame rate but capped at 60 fps.

Code is not optimized for a specific browser although my principal browser on which I develop is Chrome.

With Chrome you may want to clear the cache and cookies.

"Anchor" menu has been replaced with "Continue" because now all ships you have in the game, remain in the game and not just the at anchor ships.

General Discussion / Re: How to See other Online Users in Game
« Last post by dinther on December 22, 2016, 01:28:52 pm »
Well, the multi player mode is designed to show all other ships that are underway. Even ships from players that are on autohelm with it's owner vast asleep or at work are shown.
If this isn't the case then it's either quiet or there is a technical problem.

Right now I count 7 cruise ships in action.

Tip:  Switch to map mode and zoom out. All ships are shown as icons.

I think that is a great idea. You can now toggle collision detection on or off per ship by pressing the "L" key.

Bugs / Re: Unable to pass the Panama Canal with the Sun Princess ...

Nothing happens now, because Paul is on the road.

Try following: Go back to sea a few miles, choose course to a Lake Gatun, and set constant speed.
In the navigation chart double click Lake Gatun, where you want to take over your ships control, and note the time to get there.
Then close Ships2 simulation properly, and wait until this time has elapsed.
The Channel Pilots will take care of your ship during this time.
Login to the simulation again, and continue your journey.
You will certainly have to do this a couple of times during journey.

Regards
Dieter

Improvements / Wind indication
« Last post by Sowosamma on December 17, 2016, 06:15:31 am »
Wind indication is not (yet) implemented right.

When sailing with true wind zero, then apparent wind is always shown incorrectly as the half value of the speed over ground (SOG). Direction indication is always ok then. The wrong value may come from the wind speed of 16 kts, that was set as a constant in earlier times?

When cruising with wind of 8 kts from 10, which you get in Gothenburg and keep everywhere, different results are obtained.

Wind 8 kts from 10, ship's HDG 190, i.e. going with the wind
ship's speed SOG (kts)         0     5       10     16     20
aparent wind speed (kts)     8     5,4      3        0      2
Aparent wind speed should be the magnitude of the subtraction of real wind from SOG.

More:
Wind 8 kts from 10, ship's HDG as indicated

wind from    SOG    wind kts
ahead         20         18     expected 28
portside      22         13     expected 23.4
stb side      22         13     expected 23.4
astern        22           3     expected 14

This is for your records.
