Bugs / Ship's Log incorrect
« Last post by Sowosamma on January 01, 2017, 07:42:34 am »

I noticed some irregularities in Ship's Log:

- Distance:
Sailing from Auckland to Tokyo with QM2 showed 7780 nm in the logbook, Google Maps measuring function only 4995 nm.
The way back from Yokohama to Auckland added another 7637 nm to it, but Google Maps only 4924 nm. The point to point distance in Ships2 navigation chart is 4770 nm each, what is quite close to the real distance, because you go straight ahead to the Fidji Islands, and then a little left to Japan. There is a factor of 1.55 in the Ship's Log.
As an additional measurement, I used the distance from Nuuk on Greenland to L'Anse aux Meadows on Newfoundland, what is with Google 806 nm, and in Ship's log 1197 nm. Again a factor of approximately 1.5.

- Idle Time:
As I rediscovered Ships2Career on 6th October, and I stuck in it every day (hear the whine of my wife), only 100 days have elapsed since then. But in Ship's Log there are ships with Idle Time of 400, 500, and even 1385 days. I have no overview about the times the ships ran really, but the journey from Auckland to Tokyo and back to Auckland took me not longer than 10 days, but in the Ship's Log I can find 32 days.

This is for your records.

Best regards
Improvements / The autopilot?

The autopilot? Can you tell me if the ships have fully automated pilots like airplanes? What I mean: "checkpoints" completely controlled by computer which would eliminate my interention in the high seas?

If so ... can you offer it on the simulator?

Thanks in advance!    ??? ;)
Improvements / From any Port of my choice?

Would it be possible to give us the possibility to leave any Port of the World by clicking on the map? Example I decide to select the Port of in Quebec using the STENA, without crossing the OcÚcan of Europe to Canada ?! :o ;D ;)

General Discussion / Re: Refueling

Your ship will refuel if it is docked. It takes 4 hours to fill up the tanks.

Your ship will also refuel if it is at anchor. However, you can only anchor in shallow waters close to shore so make sure you don't run out in the middle of the ocean.
When on anchor you need to wait 4 hours before a refuel ship reaches you and another 4 hours to fill up te tanks.

So, when anchored overnight you should find your ship refueled the next morning.
General Discussion / Re: CPU - Cooking

It be interesting to see the chrome numbers. It is claimed Chrome uses a lot of CPU power. But the game is absolutely hammering the CPU. This is because it uses the "requestAnimationFrame" API call. This call allows a computer to complete drawing a frame in the browser and then executes the next simulation cycle. Faster CPU's will run at a higher frame rate but capped at 60 fps.

Code is not optimized for a specific browser although my principal browser on which I develop is Chrome.

With Chrome you may want to clear the cache and cookies.

"Anchor" menu has been replaced with "Continue" because now all ships you have in the game, remain in the game and not just the at anchor ships.

Well, the multi player mode is designed to show all other ships that are underway. Even ships from players that are on autohelm with it's owner vast asleep or at work are shown.
If this isn't the case then it's either quiet or there is a technical problem.

Right now I count 7 cruise ships in action.

Tip:  Switch to map mode and zoom out. All ships are shown as icons.

I think that is a great idea. You can now toggle collision detection on or off per ship by pressing the "L" key.
