Always try CTRL F5 first to refresh the page. Browsers save some files for more efficient use of the Internet but sometimes they are outdated and no longer compatible with other newer files.

CTRL F5 page refresh fixes that. If not please post a screenshot. Everything should work as per normal.

General Discussion / Re: Speed limit for locks and such
« on: September 26, 2016, 04:35:13 pm »
Not that you get scored on. Officially I am not sure. I expect so. For example in marinas there is a 5kts speed limit. I expect that to be walking pace (approx 2kts in a narrow lock)

If a ship like Alina squeezes through a narrow lock at Koblenz imagine where the water goes. Only under the ship and not around. I don't think they can really go fast if they tried.

Can you post a screenshot please? Also please tell me the operating system and browser you are using.

It can only be caused by incorrect water tiles. I checked them and they seemed fine. I never seen a crash there but I redid the tiles anyway.
It tests fine here at the moment. Have another go after clearing your browser cache (CTRL F5 should be enough)

HDG is a button for the near future. It will lock your heading like an auto helm. Ext is a switch used in conjunction with gamepads or external controllers.

Yeah ctrl f5 first to refresh the page but if it still happens I need a whole lot more information.  When does it disappear exactly? Does it even appear? What browser and Operating system? Can you see the port in Sydney or does the map remain zoomed put when you load the page. Do other ships work?

Time is something I am running out of. Tourist season is starting here in New Zealand so I be back on tour with visitors in a few weeks.

Oops times two. I guess you don't like ghost ships much.

I deleted an old obsolete folder on the server but the Stena Hollandica ship file still referred to some images in it.
All good now.

And yes. Use https (You will loose all your progress though :-( ). I tried where possible to push everyone onto https but I am having trouble to get the server redirect settings to catch all cases.

If you are technically savy and then you can go into the localStorage of your browser and backup and restore your progress data manually.

General Discussion / Re: Location suggestion
« on: September 15, 2016, 04:14:48 pm »
I need to review how locations are done. With yesterday's code change all locations work for all ships. I think I need to get rid of the location list and use a map with location icons.

General Discussion / Re: Path prediction in satellite mode

I think things get too easy when the line is also in satellite mode. For now, chart plotting features are only in map mode while some ships won't even have a course predict line.

That is totally my intention. I am certain much more elaborate panels can be created as there are literally hundreds of simulated parameters inside the simulation engine that could be displayed.

Tips and tricks and photos / Re: Beautiful places in the Netherlands

Yes very nice. That makes me think. Later when I have time I will look into this. I could add a camera button that will bring up photos of the location your ship is at using either panoramio or google

Thanks Captain, I had a crew dredge the approach. Should be deep enough now.

You're good to resume your trip.

General Discussion / Re: Panning with ship tracking turned on
« on: September 14, 2016, 06:23:21 pm »
Yes, that would be much better. In fact I was planning that but then Google changed something in Google Maps which caused the track feature to look jittery and restless.
I have another crack at solving the jittery look and implement your suggestion. Especially useful on phones.

If I can't get rid of the jitter, I will have to change the track code so it allows the ship to sail until it get's close to the screen border and then center it.

Mind you, I find that I almost never use tracking and much prefer to see the ship move smoothly.

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.

Yeah man, thanks for the effort you put into the pictures. I like your suggestions. Sounds like you know a thing or two about ships.

Here's the cool thing, all of your suggestions are possible today and I fully intend to make more realistic ship control panels. Or in fact, I am keen to find people such as yourself able and keen to build their own ships.

Right now I am feeling my way through this and I don't want to scare away potential players with too many controls or abbreviations they don't understand.
for example: For you and I "SOG" Speed over Ground is perfectly sensible but your average user won't know what that is.

The ships2career game engine is fully parametric and Scenarios, ship physics and control panels can be fully customized and attached to any of the internal simulation parameters right down to fuel flow per engine. Obviously such realistic panels will require much more space and at that stage we should be looking at a multi screen layout.

Maybe a ships2career Pro version.
