Title: Save games
Post by: Udengaard on September 03, 2016, 01:59:49 am
If I crash my boat into the docks after several days of game play, do I have to start the mission all over or can I "load" from the last anchor point?

It is not yet working - I "safed" many times but I'm not able to start in a next session from this point ... I have to go to the beginning ... happend with the Ferry from Calais to Dover - I had to stop in the midst of the Channel and when I wanted to continue I had to start again in Calais ...

Similar problem I had with MS Aline after Koblenz passing through the first lock. ... it needs time to navigate very slowly. There were again a lot of crashes ... with all the crashes the MS Aline was moved to the border of the lock and there was no way to get it back to the water ... so I had to restart the journey Koblenz - Trier ... Question: is there no way to reset em part the game and to restart a little behind the lock and to try again? Immagine that happens when you are in the 8th or 9th lock just near Trier and you have to restart in Koblenz???

I think you guys have a point here. Let me first explain why it is working as it is now.

A ship can only be at one place at a time. It's either for anchor or it is not.
When you drop a ships anchor an entry is written to your harddrive about it's anchorage.
When you load the main menu you will find your ship back under the anchor menu and you can continue from were.

If you weigh anchor (Pull it up) then that anchorage is lost. If you go back to the menu you will no longer find your anchor entry there.
If you would refresh the page at this point you will get the error as shown in the image attachment.

So, two things to know:

1 - If you drop the anchor (Wait for the green light because out at sea you can't anchor at all as it is too deep) and leave the page you will find your ship back in the anchor menu
2 - If you start any session involving the same ship you will start at the beginning and loose your anchorage as a ship can only be at one place at a time.

Just try it with lesson2 and drop anchor after a few meters and go to the anchor menu.

But I was wrong. I think my reasoning was too much aligned with reality and I suppose most players will consider it more as a save game option. It must be very frustrating to loose where you were in the game and that is not good.

So here is what I am thinking to improve it and I want your critical feedback:

1 - If you drop anchor it will remain stored and only over written when you drop anchor again.
2 - The only way to get rid of an anchor entry is to delete it in the menu.
3 - If you start a new session instead of picking up an anchored ship it will always start at the beginning.
4 - The way to continue where you left a ship is via the Anchor menu.

What do you think?

This may have something to do with my issue on the Calais to Dover Ferry mission. I was anchored there and I was able to start the mission again from Calais. I left the port (Dover) but when I get back to menu the anchor remains there, I tried this many times, any idea?

Ahhhh CLICK!  I think I know what your issue is. The scenario engine doesn't re-initialize properly after you come back. I even know why. Don't waste your time. I gotta fix this first. Thank you!
