Panning with ship tracking turned on
« on: September 14, 2016, 01:10:11 pm »
Hello. This is great! Thank you very much for making the game.

Here’s a suggestion:
When tracking is on, view follows ship and keeps it centered on screen. Could it be possible to allow panning around, leaving just the follow part? The ship could then be anywhere on the screen (maybe even off). Because when ship is centered, from navigational point of view, half of the screen is wasted, so I think it would improve navigation.
For example if I’m sailing west I would pan to the left (putting my ship near the right edge of the screen) and see twice as far where I’m going.
To avoid getting lost, every time tracking is turned on it could return to ship being centered (like it does now actually).

Yes, that would be much better. In fact I was planning that but then Google changed something in Google Maps which caused the track feature to look jittery and restless.
I have another crack at solving the jittery look and implement your suggestion. Especially useful on phones.

If I can't get rid of the jitter, I will have to change the track code so it allows the ship to sail until it get's close to the screen border and then center it.

Mind you, I find that I almost never use tracking and much prefer to see the ship move smoothly.

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.
